We had so much rain in the spring and for a good part of the early summer that a lot of veggies rotted in the ground. Our Carrots, Radishes and Beets did poorly.
The Tomatoes have some kind of blight and are rotting on the vine, I have been putting the ones that I can salvage in newspaper to ripen. The Peppers are doing okay. Zucchini, Summer Squash, Cucumbers and Salad Greens seem to be doing very well, and we have enjoyed several harvestings.
Not knowing how well things would grow, I think we over planted; we also had Broccoli, Brussel Sprouts, Egg Plant and Watermelon...none of these did well at all.
However, if we can't produce the produce we, fortunately, have a wonderful country farmers' market we can visit on Saturday mornings.
We grew our Sunflowers from seeds, they are almost 10 feet tall.

Awesome Sunflower! That makes up for the vegetable loss in my opinion. :)
Beautiful Sunflower!!!!!

WoW! I love your garden and am envious of it as well! I have always wanted to have a garden, but have not had the space. Hopefully one day! Your sunflowers are amazing, I can't believe they are so tall!! How wonderful.
You have a beautiful garden. It looks very much like a public garden that I saw the other day. Except your sunflower is in much better condition.
It must be very satisfying.
You have a great garden! Your sunflower is beautiful. :)
Sunny, the sunflower is lovely and steals the show here. How many of them do you have? I bought a packet of sunflower seeds to germinate but unfortunately there still no visible signs of growth after almost 2 weeks. Oh dear. Have a wonderful weekend!
I have read of the blight... although our tomatoes did ok here in Ohio...they just ripened late...it was just too cool and wet for them in early summer...we had tall sunflowers too...they grew from the seeds we provide for the birds.
Smiles to you,
Wanda
This year our tomatoes and beans didn't produce while sweet basil and peppers thrived. Looks like you found quite a few things that do well in your area. Your sunflowers look so healthy!
You have a beautiful garden.I love sunflower.
Your garden looks green and healthy to me! I, too, am a sunflower fan!
Hi Sunny
I suppose it is a bit of trial and error with the rains...are you in the same area in your new home?
The things that are growing look very healthy
thank heavens for farmers' markets...
Happy days
Love the gourds, Sunny. And the peppers. I once grew capsicums on the window ledge, they were only tiny though. The climate here doesn't cater for garden sewn peppers. I hope you save sunflower seeds for the birds.
The gourds are so pretty and that sunflower is gorgeous.
I've been hearing similar stories about gardens this year, between the blight and too much rain this has not been a good gardening year for most folks. Hopefully it will improve next year.

Wow, Sunny, good for the first year. Your sunflower reminds me of home (sniff-sniff) where sunflowers are grown profusely by the farmers.
Work as much peat into your soil this fall as you can afford. Every year, your garden will get better and better. If you haven't already, make sure and start a compost pile. It's all that you read about and more.
Sunny...your garden items look fabulous and I love the old vegetable stand. I HAVE to get up to New England...the landscape and traditions that you speak of are so interesting to me. It must be a photographers paradise!
I also noticed you have a Golden Doodle. They are such neat dogs...we have a Wheaten Terrier and they remind me somewhat of Golden Doodles.
Dan
you got a beauty there!
