'They' said it would bloom by Christmas, But all it did was grow very tall, Then it finally bloomed in the New Year, Which is better than not blooming at all! ~SRD
I love growing Amaryllis. It's exciting to watch as the long green swordlike stem gets taller and taller, then poof, it opens it's incredible blooms. They can be grown as houseplants when the blooms are gone, & then put outside in the summertime. In fall put the tuber in a dark place for a few weeks, & it will then bloom again next year! :)
To pick a flower is so much more satisfying than just observing it, or photographing it ... So in later years, I have grown in my garden as many flowers as possible for children to pick.
My Amaryllis is slow this year. It's getting there but I think it's aiming for Easter. My neighbour buys me one every year and they're usually in full bloom by New Year. It's a lovely photograph, Sunny.
I'll take the "Better than not blooming at all" any day. Beautiful colors, and now you get to enjoy it a little longer in the new year ;) Love the poem.
Beautiful shot. Our's must have set in the store for a long time as it shot up and bloomed so quickly. Son and wife bought us on for Christmas, and it just sits there. No growth spurt, nothing. I like how your camera picked up the red color.
Oh, it is beautiful. Much better to bloom now that all the excitement and color of Christmas is past. If that doesn't lift your mood, I don't know what will!
Gosh! What a strikingly beautiful flower! You did a fantastic job of getting such detail. Have a wonderful weekend, and thank you for leaving such appreciative comments for me!
From the shores of New England to the Oregon coast, I would like to share some of the places that I've been and things that I've seen.
As we travel you may notice; there is an emphasis on Massachusetts...my home state, you will see a lot of barns...that I love, whether old, new or dilapidated, we are not traveling in any particular direction, and we may visit some places more than once.
Please enjoy my American Photo Journey and your comments are welcomed!
YOU MAY CLICK ON ANY PICTURE TO ENLARGE IT.
The photo in the title...
features the Far Away Farm in Ashfield, Massachusetts.
I was born in my grandmother's old mill house in Cornwall, England and came to the USA with my parents in 1958. My Dad was in the RAF and as a child I lived in many different locations in England and even the Rock of Gibraltar.
Massachusetts has always been home in the US except for a brief period when I resided in Idaho, giving me a chance to explore the Great American West. For nearly 30 years I lived on Cape Cod before my husband and I moved back to the mountains* of Massachusetts with our Goldendoodle Lucy, and our cats, Lilly and Molly. I am also the mother of a grown son.
*Some of you would call them hills but they're mountains to me!

What a wonderful way to start the new year - with a beautiful bloomer. They really brighten up a gray gloomy winter day.
