Grandstand
Charlemont Fairgrounds The fate of the old grandstand is unknown,
a small percentage of people would like to see it restored,
a larger group seems to think it should be done away with.
It's sad that little by little, pieces of history
disappear from the landscape.

This reminds me of the grandstand in the fairgrounds in my hometown. That grandstand is no longer there. I hope this one has a kinder fate.
What a great photo! I get sad when the old landmarks and buildings get wiped out. I can understand the need for new facilities but it would be so much nicer if old buildings and structures like this could be refurnished and enjoyed for years to come!
If it is causing not bother, leave it alone. Des Moines's Fair Ground reworked theirs stands a few years back.
I am a progressive in every way, but, sometimes I mourn rejecting the old to bring in the new.
Oh this looks like the grandstand on the town sportsfield where I grew up (we lived next to the field) And I think if I went there today, it would be demolished. Sad... Have a good weekend, Sunny.
Oh--I hope they keep it and restore it. We need that history---so that future generations will see it and learn to appreciate the past.
Hugs,
Betsy
I like to see every bit of our history restored if at all possible.
I love the grand stand. Was it used for racing, horses, cars. Or maybe judging cattle. It should definitely be restored. down the road of time people will say "wish they had restored it"
I think places like that get torn down because the people are used to everything looking like that in their area. So, it has no special meaning for them, it looks like their surroundings.
Beautiful picture dear Sunny!
Léia :)
I agree, but they say we must make room for the future - shopping malls or blocks of flats.
Sunny . . . . that ole' Grandstand brought back some memories of my own. A long time ago, there was a place here in Reading that was called the Reading Fairgrounds. There used to be a big Grandstand alongside the race track that was there for many years. Now, the whole darn thing is gone! A big shopping Mall took it's place. Now, the Shopping Mall is called the Reading Fairgrounds Mall. Go figure, hugh.
Some things may disappear from our view but are remembered in our minds eye and therefor not forgotten.
Grand shot, Sunny:)
