Winter Barnyard

Bear Swamp Farm
Ashfield, Massachusetts

"Ironically, rural America has become viewed
by a growing number of Americans as having a
higher quality of life, not because of what it has,
but rather because of what it does not have!"
~Don A. Dillman

This is the same farm that is pictured in my header.

Lovely photo! I think people yearn for a simpler life, but I'm afraid most city dwellers would not fare well living on a place like this farm.

You've captured the essence of mid-winter yearning so beautifully in this shot, Sunny.

Beautiful picture of the farm --with the snow all around. I love seeing it in your header also.

Yes, I agree with that quote wholeheartedly. I'm not a city girl but I'm not rugged either. I still want running water, heat and cleanliness. I wonder if this barn is in working order. I like the way you captured it. It's interesting how it looks completely different from the header photo (in spite of the snow). It's neat how you capture the same place in different ways.

It is a rambling bunch of buildings. The rusty metal roof is what we had on our barn at home. It is a beautiful place, but I don't have time to fix it up.

I love it! You are so fortunate to be able to photograph these barns and we are fortunate that you share.

The rusty metal roof and the brown grass complement each other in the snow.

Great blog. The thought popped into my head as soon as I saw Bear swamp farm, that it was the same as the Header just different angle. As I wander around the roads it is sad seeing these old farms and Home Places. What has happened to our backbone The Farms. Many of these you can no longer see unless the trees have shed their leaves. I see farms that though smaller now, still active they are restoring the old family homes. Very interesting.

I like this kind of shot!
It's full of narrative incipit! The render on the textures is stunning

I really like this photo of the barn. I think there is a great deal of truth in the quote you posted as well.

the two photos look like totally differnt places to me. odd name, bear swamp. I wonder if there is a swamp on the farm and if it has bears, or if that is a very old name from the past.

A lovely farm scene Sunny. I wonder if they still see bears, or even if it has a swamp.

Nothing wrong with a plain and simple life. Years ago, people survived wit so little. If you are not used to it, you cannot miss it. I love this old barn picture.

That's a beautiful collection of buildings. Doesn't look they'll be standing very long.

SOLD! I like it... but does it really come with a bear?

Smile awhile and keep warm, Sunny :)
