My Dad was a Tail Gunner in the RAF, he never liked to talk much about the war (WWII) but he used to sing a couple of songs when I was a child. One was 'The White Cliffs of Dover' and the other was 'Coming in on a Wing and a Prayer', both popular back in the 1940's. This really has nothing to do with a Canada Goose other than as I watched it come in for a landing that old song popped into my head, and brought back wonderful memories of my Dad.

Good for the Canada Goose... it's lovely to have sudden rushes of memory. I remember both songs, of course!
You have captured a great picture. What a nice way to remember your dad.
It's a rare day we'd see a wild Canada goose down here in Australia! You're so lucky!
Happy travels!!
There is something lovely about these tricks of memory and association - the way that an image or a word or a thought can send the mind to places it didn't expect to go.
Canada geese often look like they are crashing when they land in a small pond. they set down rather clumsly, then almost stand up on the water as if to say"look I made it. ha ha ha ha
I love when that happens. Thank you for sharing this one with us.
Beautiful photograph Sunny and a great story behind it. I've found that the men I've known who actually fought in wars don't really like to talk about it.
I think it's wonderful, how little moments in nature can remind us of our loved ones.
Have a good weekend, Sunny!
Beautiful capture, Sunny! And a great memory for you of your Dad.
I remember both of those songs.... And that Canada Goose does look like he is trying to land on a wing and a prayer!!!!! ha
I know you must have been very proud of your father..
Have a fabulous Saturday.
Hugs,
Betsy
What a great thing about pics Sunny -
Memories, of times gone by, it also makes the photo come to life.
Terrific flight shot, and sweet memory.
I love it when memories come back to you like that. Beautiful shot!
My father-in-law was a copilot in WWII and POW. He never talked about it much either.
Beautiful words Sunny, full of love to your dad!:)
Have a nice Sunday,
Hugs

Beautiful capture of the goose in flight Sunny. I grew up on WWII songs and loved The White Cliffs of Dover, and another favorite was We'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when. Not sure if that is the exact title of the song but the tune is running through my head right now. I didn't hear much from my Dad either until he met hubby's Dad and when they first met they hit it off so well, and started to tell each other about their WWII experiences. Those old songs will always be with me I think. My Dad was a good singer and my Mom too, and I spent many a time listening to them.
I think those songs are perfect for you picture.......
Brought a tear to my eye. I love it when something reminds me of my dad....so special!
Sunny,
This is a beautiful picture. You did a fabulous job capturing this goose mid flight. How nice to have such lovely memories of your dear dad and his service.
Beautiful shot! Sometimes it's funny the little things that trigger cherished memories so unexpectedly.
I know the town of Hinsdale. I lived in Great Barrington for three years!
Love your reflection shot. Isn't the Green River Bridge such a historical little corner?! :-)

I've also heard both of those songs, and "On a Wing and a Prayer" seems very appropriate for this picture of the goose.
Lovely picture Sunny and I knew right away why your mind jumped where it did! Free association, one of my favorite things to do ;>).... I remember my Dad and Uncle singing WWII songs too -- and not talking much about their experiences either. The way we were!
perfect picture and wonderful memories. Dad was a World War II veteran.
That's a beautiful shot of the goose Sunny. I treasure my memories of my dad. He was such a special man and I really miss him.
I love watching the Canada Geese come in for a landing. It's strange how seemingly unrelated happenings will trigger memories in our minds.
and your memories jumpstarted mine. My dads brother was a tail gunner in WWII USAF. he recently died and was the last of daddy's siblings. he was like a second dad to me.
It makes for good memories.
