Seeing Double

The reflection of our Christmas tree in the living room window,
gives the appearance that there is also one outside.

Snowbound

While the wind howled, and the snow fell sideways; blowing and twisting across the fields, and as Mother Nature furiously wove her Winter blanket, I was content to be on the inside...looking out.

Branching Out

When my employment outlook became bleak, I decided to expand my photography into the market place through local and regional craft shows. As 2010 draws to an end, I am delighted to say that my efforts have been well received and I am looking forward to 2011.

I invite you to take a look at my latest blogging project, Barnyards and Barnacles Photography. The primary purpose of this blog is to provide a list of venues of where we will be during the New Year. If any of my blogging friends are ever in the area, it would make my day if you stopped by and said hello!

Allez Cuisine!

Iron Chef Michael Symon
'Live to Cook' Book Tour

Iron Chef America is a cooking show on the Food Network. Styled from the original Japanese program, it is sort of a culinary game show. In each episode, a new challenger chef "battles" one of the resident Iron Chefs in a one-hour cooking competition based on a theme ingredient.

Recently, I had the pleasure of meeting and sharing a laugh with, my favorite, Iron Chef Michael Symon who was promoting his book 'Live to Cook'.

'Allez Cuisine' is the French phrase that calls the chefs
to culinary battle and losely translated means 'Start Cooking'.

New England Weather

Clear blue sky...no snow on the ground...
if it wasn't for the wreath on the door...
and the cold temperature...
you might think it were Spring.

A Chilly Reminder

It's been a couple of years since we were hit by a severe ice storm that left us without power and heat for over a week. Sadly, a huge amount of trees were lost and damaged and the area was brought to a standstill.

Beneath the ice ladden Maple tree, behind our house, St. Francis of Assisi (holding his tray of bird seed) waited patiently to defrost.

While Visions of Sugar Plums...

Even though Lucy has her own blog, she sometimes sneaks over to Barnyards and Barnacles. The old couch in the den is the only furniture she's allowed on (we won't mention the bed!) and takes full advantage of a good nap on a recent, snowy afternoon. Zzzzzzzzzz!

Inch By Inch

...old Man Winter creeps in, ready to grip us with his frosty fingers.

On Saturday morning I was delightfully surprised to learn that I was the winner of the wonderful book, 'The Art of George Stubbs'. This was a generous giveaway (Thank you so much!) by my blogging friend Gail from 'At the Farm'. Gail also hosts 'Familiar Spirit' which features her wonderful critters and her great sense of humor. Please stop by and say hello.

stopping only briefly to pose for a picture.

Do You See What I See?

This tree stands in a pasture not far from where I live and I've always found it fascinating with its holey trunk. Use your imagination and look closely starting at the top of the hole, do you see the figure of a bearded Monk looking back at you in his long brown robe? If you don't see him, don't worry, it just means I need a vacation!

Flashback

Sunday was just plain cold! Snow flurries swirled through the air but didn't touch the ground. It's the 'tween' season; between Autumn and Winter, and in reality we are a lot closer to the latter. Trees once dressed in Autumn's finery, now stand bare along the Green River, and the landscape seems to shiver in anticipation of the coming season.

I listen to the rhythm of the water, close my eyes and for one brief moment...it's Autumn again.
